Social Anxiety Disorder

GLOSSARY

A debilitating and chronic illness characterized by a marked and persistent fear of one or more social or performance situations involving exposure to unfamiliar people or possible scrutiny by others. Also known as social phobia. Not the same as shyness. Contrast with panic attack.
