Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) / Cognitive Therapy (CT)
GLOSSARY
sam
An approach to psychotherapy with an operationalized treatment that is goal-oriented, time-sensitive, educative, and collaborative. The underlying assumption of CT is that how people perceive their experiences influences their emotional, behavioural, and physiological reactions. Approaches to CT show that correcting misperceptions and modifying unhelpful thinking and behaviours brings about improved reactions. Paired with active, hands-on modifications of actions as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). See also cognitive reappraisal.
