GLOSSARY

Pronounced “oo-boon-too.” A normative ethical system among people of South Africa which (i) prizes relationships of interdependence, (ii) fellowship, reconciliation, (iii) relationality, (iv) community friendliness, (v) harmonious relationships, and (vi) other-regarding actions. Such actions are morally right to the extent they promote social integration and interconnectedness, honour communal relationships, reduce discord, or promote friendly relationships with others. Summarized as, “I am because we are.”
