A theory of emotion stating that a subjective emotional state is dicated by an individual's cognitive appraisal of their physiological arousal occuring simultaneously with the situation. Contrast with the James-Lange Theory and the Cannon-Bard Theory of Emotion.

An emotion theory suggesting that emotions arise when we attempt to mentally 'make sense' of our body's reactions within a given situation.
