Rest and Digest

The physiological system that diverts resources to maintenance and growth activities. The rest-and-digest branch of the autonomic nervous system functions through activation of the parasympathetic nervous system. Because of this, the parasympathetic nervous system also referred to as the ‘rest-and-digest’ branch of the autonomic nervous system.
