GLOSSARY

A word used by the Dusun Baguk of Indonesia, defined as feelings of shame, embarrassment, and awkwardness elicited in the presence of people with higher status. People feeling this emotion avert their gaze, stoop, and avoid social interaction. Also used in the Malay language to mean the same.
