sam
A pair of elongated structures buried deep within each side of the medial temporal lobe that resemble a seahorse on its side. They form an extensively researched component of the human brain that is associated with coordinating memory functions (e.g., formation and retrieval using sights, sounds, and emotions with other parts of the brain) and spatial navigation. See also amygdala, prefrontal cortex, and dorsal raphe nuclei (DRN).
