Dépaysement
GLOSSARY
Pronounced, “dee-pace-mon”. A French term to describe the disoriented feeling that comes from being in a foreign or different place. ‘Pays’ translates to ‘country’ and ‘dépayser’ means ‘to disorientate’. Hence, some may refer to this feeling as ‘decountrification’, or the feeling of being an outsider. See also hiraeth.
